Visiting Scholars & Scientific Exchange Program
Our institute frequently serves as host to visiting scholars from around the world who are interested in the particular research programs, conferences and seminars sponsored by the GERI. As appropriate, visitors may be provided with non-paid academic appointments at the university or may become a volunteer staff or student researcher with us to gain experience in genetic epidemiology methods or updated knowledge of the latest trends in our scientific field. This UC Irvine Organized Research Unit (ORU) is a formally sponsored program of the university and makes it often easier for visiting scientists from around the world to find support via fellowships or grants paid by their respective institutions, countries or through special international programs.
One component of our overall mission that is integrally important to our institute members is the education and training of the next generation of scientists. Despite momentous advances in the field of human genetics, scientific questions continue to multiply in both number and complexity. Our ORU offers pre- and post-doctoral researchers with a unique opportunity to focus their study of topics relevant to genetic epidemiology. Exposure to our GERI scientists, other visiting researchers and the thoughtfully planned seminars we provide, combine to work in concert for the benefit of the next generation of scientists within the thriving GERI environment of intellectual exchange and the continual advancement of our science.
