History

A New Organized Research Unit

In February 2004, the Genetic Epidemiology Research Institute (GERI) was established in University of California, Irvine’s long tradition of conducting successful interdisciplinary research. This particular UC Irvine organized research unit (ORU) is dedicated to fostering a multidisciplinary research environment to study the mechanisms of diseases through integration of approaches from the molecular, genetic, biological, medical, population, and behavioral sciences.

With guidance from the GERI Scientific Council and under the leadership from the founding director, Dr. Hoda Anton-Culver, the newly established institute has progress to provide numerous advances to the scientific field of genetic epidemiology.

To help the campus and community become familiar with GERI, a Website was developed to provide scientific members and interested community members. This Website is used to obtain information regarding the mission and goals of the institute, membership, current events, registration of events, job opportunities, education and training and GERI research.
