The Genetic Epidemiology Research Institute (GERI) has offices and research laboratories at several locations around the UC Irvine campus, reflecting the multidisciplinary nature of our institute.

GERI’s laboratory in Sprague Hall allows our researchers to genotype large-scale population samples of cancer patient specimens. The laboratory provides state-of-the-art robotic sample preparation setups, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification and a DNA-sequencing apparatus. Using these efficient mutations screening techniques, researchers are able to screen large population samples for mutations in cancer-causing genes. This makes it possible to generate new data on genetic variations that would be useful in current research and future research designs.
Services
Biostatistics
A biostatistics team is available to assist clinical, epidemiologic and basic science investigators who are members of the institute. Consultations are available to help investigators with their study design and subsequent data analysis. They can also assist members in the linkage of their projects to other clinical, epidemiologic and laboratory data sources.
